First Week in Argentina

It has been an interesting first week in Argentina but one that we are loving even with all the challenges of getting use to how things work in Argentina and how to live in a foreign country.  We have learned to laugh as things take three times longer than they should if we can figure things out at all as some things we are still working out.   As an example of things we have had to figure out is the following picture to help explain.  We are living in a town North of Buenos Aires called San Fernando which is a nice little suburb with narrow streets but beautiful park and downtown shopping area.  We have to pay close attention to these signs as we drive:

Most streets are one way cobblestone streets and stop signs are non-existent so the arrow tells you the way the traffic is flowing and which way to look for oncoming traffic before you cross the street.   Its a little nerve wracking as a new driver but somehow it all works in this city.

We have spent alot of time this week trying to get our apartment set up to be liveable and we are still working on getting a working stove and clothes washer (which we dont have right now) but we should get those set up this week if we are lucky.   The clothes dryer is a little portable unit we pick up and put out on our balcony to run.

Our first day we attended an orientation with 5 new young missionaries just starting their service in the mission presidents home.   Such a variety of young people, all so willing to serve but nervous for the unknowns that await them, at the end of the day, they were introduced to their trainer companions huge hugs (every hugs here which will take some getting used to) but there was alot of excitement in the room before this picture was taken:

Our first real mission experience was attending a district meeting on Wednesday which was held on the patio of a members home, it was humid and 95 degrees and we wilted in the heat but was great to spend some time with missionaries talking about their goals and successes.   The mission president asked us to start attending the Pilar Ward about 30 minutes from us that is north in the country because they have been having over 40 baptisms a month and we need to attend to help with fellowshipping new members.   We will start attending there next week and that will kick off our work that we were called here to do.   Language is a challenge but will become easier I'm sure.  Its all new but we are having a great time.

We love and miss you all.  We will take more pictures as things settle down and make this more pictures than me chatting.
